Classical Reproduction Irish Flute D'Almaine Irish Classical Flute in D is a reproduction of a 19th Century flute from London based D'Almaine & CO. Irish Classical Flute in D has 8 silver plated keys, made of African Grenadilla ebony black wood and imitation Ivory protection rings. Plays concert pitch of A=440 The six tone-holes on this flute correspond to the six holes on a tin whistle: if you already play whistle, you will not need to change your fingering to play the same music on a flute. The head-joint is with a tuning slide, which allows the flute's head to be pushed in or out. It is recommended for all players to use a slide head because when you start blowing warm air into a cold flute, the instrument's cool walls reduce the temperature of the air column inside it. But after playing for a few minutes, your breath starts to warm the flute, allowing the air column's temperature to approach that of your body. Because sound actually moves faster through warm air than cold, the flute becomes sharper in pitch as it warms up. It has a "boxed oval" embouchure hole which helps get a bigger sound. The keywork is post-mounted came after the historical block-mounted keywork. There were several standards for such flutes in the 19th century. A type of instrument that was very common in France throughout the entire 19th century was the five-key flute. In this design, there is thumb Bb key, LH pinky finger G# key, LH pinky finger F natural long key, RH F natural short key as well as the RH pinky finger D# key, RH little finger Low C#/Db key, RH little finger Low C key . This flute is for those that wish to play in Historically Informed Performances of late eighteenth and nineteenth century music.
