Intelligence Research Specialist

GS-07:
Handles routine intelligence issues and may participate in less complex tasks or special projects. Review ATF intelligence requirements, open source intelligence and other forms of intelligence communications to identify, evaluate and process intelligence information therein; performs preliminary, research, analysis and evaluation of raw intelligence data to assist Senior Intelligence Analysts and Special Agents. Reviews incoming intelligence information and enters data in the division's computerized intelligence databases. Communicate with field offices and assist managers and senior IRS in law enforcement communities to gain a better understanding; preparing statistical reports for ATF Headquarters, Field programs and projects. GS-09:
Performs basic analysis to include collation of raw primary and secondary data derived from various sources such as automated database systems, operational intelligence reports, miscellaneous communications, case files, internal and external automation systems and other sources. Assists in the development and maintenance of computerized intelligence databases to meet the specific needs of the division and to generate statistical and relational reports for division managers and for headquarters programs and projects. Collects operational intelligence reports from various Federal, State and Local government and law enforcement agencies. GS-11:
Under the guidance of a Senior Intelligence Research Specialist or Special Agent clarifies the nature of investigative intelligence indicators, provides investigative leads, request data to substantiate or verify information for use in responding to collateral request. Performs complex analyses of raw primary and secondary data queried from various sources, i.e. internal and external automated database systems, intelligence reports and case files. Provides detailed analytical reports of the activities of crime groups. Conducts validation of sources and evaluates information derived from cooperating witnesses, assets and informant and prepares production reviews of asset/informant/cooperating witness validation efforts. Access local and national intelligence information databases to respond to and validate requests for information. Develops and maintains computerized intelligence information databases to generate statistical and relational reports. Makes recommendations for modifications and improvements to existing systems and establishes new collection techniques for unique investigations. Performs liaison and coordination functions with counterparts and personnel throughout the intelligence and law enforcement communities. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses. To qualify for the GS-07:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level which involves performing such duties that demonstrates having a basic knowledge of intelligence-gathering techniques, operations and activities in order to compile data to support investigative operations. Experience using automated information systems to retrieve, review and update intelligence databases.To qualify for the GS-09:
You must have 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 federal grade level. Specialized experience for this level includes:
accessing local and national intelligence information databases to respond to less-complex requests for intelligence information; conduct fact-finding assignments; assisting in the development and maintenance of computerized intelligence databases to meet specific needs of the division and to generate statistical/relational reports for division managers and for headquarters programs and projects; performing a variety of operational intelligence reports from various Federal, State, Local government and law enforcement agencies. To qualify for the GS-11:
You must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. Specialized experience at this level includes:
collecting, analyzing and disseminating intelligence information; using a variety of intelligence-gathering methods including link analyses, visual investigative analyses, crime mapping and telephone toll record analyses to support criminal investigative operations; experience extracting, compiling and analyzing factual information for criminal investigators; performing liaison and coordination functions with counterparts in other intelligence organizations; maintaining and modifying intelligence databases to generate statistical reports; drafting multiple, complex intelligence reports that contains original analyses, conclusions and recommendations. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
